ONE FINGER TO RULE THEM ALL.
After Ten Years, Troy Van Leeuwen and Dr. No Reunite and Resurrect The Idea That Was Left In The Big Idea Drawer for a Decade…….
The Story of The Blameshifter.
—
Dr. No Effects (Guitar Effects Artist) and Troy Van Leeuwen (Guitarist Queens of the Stone Age, Sonic Architect), Create The Blameshifter!
After ten years, Dr. No and Troy Van Leeuwen reunite.
What started as a celebration of the ten-year anniversary of the now-legendary Dr. No & TvL series — the TvL Raven and TvL Octavia, conceived together in 2016 — quickly spiraled into something entirely new.
Dr. No Effects and Troy Van Leeuwen have been locked in the creation space, working on two new releases.
Troy brought the technical concept and the idea for the Blameshifter. Dr. No handled the technical translation, concept, and execution of what is now a reality.
The Ghost In The Drawer: The Blameshifter
During the creation of the original TvL series, back in 2016, there were too many stories, too many jokes, too much inspiration for just two pedals. One idea was left in the drawer.
Printed, hidden, under the left skull knob of the TvL Octavia, the name was already there: “Blameshifter.”
The idea itself is older than the Dr. No & TvL collaboration. It was a running joke in the Queens of the Stone Age rehearsal room — long before 2016: “What if there was an effect that could shift the blame for a fuck-up to the other guy’s amp?”
The Blameshifter was born as a joke. Not as a actual guitar pedal. Until Summer 2026…..
When a severed finger literally fell out of Dr. No’s drawer of ideas, all the pieces fell into place. A text message — a finger on an enclosure, “I think I’ve found the Blameshifter!” — restarted the engines.
Troy developed it into a wizard’s staff: an ingenious, multi-tool switching labyrinth. Dr. No gave it a body and a soul.
The Ingenious Labyrinth of the Blameshifter
At first glance, the Blameshifter looks simple. You will ask: “What does it actually do?”
The Blameshifter has 1 guitar input. The signal hits a high-end, ultra-transparent buffer immediately — so from that point, no tone is lost, no matter where you route it.
It has 4 outputs.
When OFF: Your signal goes Input > Buffer > OUT. Pure, buffered.
When ON: You route your signal to wherever the severed finger points.
Output 1 (top left) + Return (right side): Use it as a Send to another amp, OR as an Effects Loop. Plug your loop into the Return on the right, and the looped, buffered signal comes back out of your main OUT when engaged. No tap-dancing. Engage multiple effects at once. A mini toggle switch on the left side also functions as a switch to also choose output 2 when using the Output 1 or 3 when switching on the pointing finger.
Output 3 (top right) + Return: Identical to Output 1. So you now have TWO switchable buffered effects loops. Or two extra amp sends.
Output 2 (middle top): The A/B marvel. Sends a buffered signal to another amp. A micro-switch on the left lets you choose:
Position A: Output 2 ONLY when engaged (classic A/B).
Position B: Output 2 + your original OUT together (add an amp, run wet/dry, create chaos).
And the severed finger… it points to where your signal is going.
The 3 output indicator labels on top of the Blameshifter are left blank, so you can name each individual favorite routing with a erasable marker.

About Troy Van Leeuwen
Troy Van Leeuwen is the guitarist of Queens of the Stone Age, a Sonic Architect whose playing has defined modern rock for over two decades. From his early work with Failure and A Perfect Circle to his two-decade tenure in QOTSA, and collaborations with Iggy Pop, Mark Lanegan, The Desert Sessions and Eagles of Death Metal, Troy has built a career on tone as identity.
A collector, a creator, and a relentless tweaker of sound, his work with Dr. No Effects — the Raven and Octavia — became instant cult classics, celebrated for turning effects into art objects.
The Blameshifter marks his third creation with Dr. No, ten years after it all began
